Welcome to Os

The village near Bergen and on the beautiful Bjørnefjord

Fjords, islands, skerries and islets... Warm summer days with sunshine, barbecues and swimming …. Houses, cabins, and boathouses in breathtaking scenery … Boating, fishing, delicious food and drink – a shared sunset with a loved one on a warm July evening… Can you imagine anything better?

The municipality of Os can offer all of this to locals and tourists. Our location, just a 40-minute drive south of Bergen centre, provides us with a unique combination of city life and beautiful nature. In short, idyllic south coast atmosphere in a West Norwegian landscape!

Through the project Os Inspires, the council is now paving the way for further development of the municipality of Os. Osøyro will be further developed as a community and a regional capital. There has been a large emphasis on the development of Os harbour, including apartments, commercial properties, quayside and jetty, and small boat habour. The largest individual project is Oseana Art and Cultural Center, which opened on Mobergsneset 17TH of June this year. Here the Bergen region will get a power center for art and culture, in the middle of the west coast fjord and mountain landscapes. In 2006 our new swimming complex and water park, Osbadet, in Kuventræ opened. Here you will find all facilities including 25 metre pool, therapy pool, children’s pool, water chutes, diving boards and cafeteria. For more information check www.osbadet.no

If you’re a visitor or tourist, I strongly recommend that you explore all of Os. Visit Ole Bull’s magnificent Villa Lysøen, the Lysekloster monastery, Solstrand Fjord hotel, Osøyro centre, the Oz Gallery, the islands stretching from the Bjørnefjord via Øyane and Strøno to the Lysefjord, the Os River and mountains. Give in to your curiosity!

On behalf of the municipality of Os, I wish all visitors and guests a warm welcome to Os. I know you will find the people of Os to be hospitable. Good luck to all of you as you explore our idyllic south coast atmosphere in a West Norwegian landscape!
