Bjørnefjorden Gjestetun

This beautiful farm was previously part of the Lysekloster monastery, which dates from 1146.

Thirty minutes south of Bergen in the heart of Norway’s fjord country, at the Hauge farm in Os, is Bjørnefjorden Gjestetun. The guesthouse offers awe inspiring views of the Bjørnefjord, the Folgefonna glacier, Rosendal and the Tysnes mountains in the distance. Bjørnefjorden Gjestetun has preserved its traditional Norwegian architectural style. The oldest building on the farm, like the old stave churches, was built according to stave construction principles.

There are nine buildings of varying size, built to correspond with their function on the farm. Among others you can find the old cowshed, kårhuset, where the older generations on the farm would live, carriage house and smokehouse where you can smoke your own fish. A 1100 m2 new building housing the reception area, restaurant, and conference centre and guest rooms was opened in August of 1997. The entire building reflects the original style of the rest of the farm.
